Ephrata Middle School
Ephrata, WA
Updates to Ephrata Middle School are part of a $27.89 million bond approved by voters in 2019. At EMS, these funds are being used to build new classroom spaces, enlarge the cafeteria, build a new, multi-purpose, gym and update infrastructure. Bond related construction is also underway at Columbia Ridge Elementary.
Renovation of EMS began in the fall of 2020. The first phase was completed in December 2021, bringing access to a new multi-purpose gymnasium, music room and library. The new gym was immediately converted into six temporary classrooms to house students while construction continues on learning spaces in the school building.
This past November, the second phase of construction was completed on the school’s south wing. This phase brought brand new classroom spaces, including a new art room, shop and a life skills classroom in addition to traditional classroom space. Administrative offices were updated in this phase of construction and the school now has a dedicated staff room and conference room. Security was also increased with a secure vestibule in the building’s main entryway. Visitors must check-in and be granted access through locked doors before being able to enter the school.
The north wing of EMS is currently under construction. When it is finished at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, students and staff will have full access to all classroom space in the building as well as use of our new multi-purpose gymnasium.
This spring, renovations will begin on the final phase of construction and will include remodeling of the EMS cafeteria, kitchen and existing gym. All construction is scheduled to be complete, and the building finished, during the winter of 2023-2024.
