Wapato School District was awarded a State grant of capital funds under the States K-3 class size reduction program to help school districts achieve progress towards class size reduction and all-day kindergarten goals. Wapato School District was certified for 21-additional classrooms which allowed for the design and construction of a new stand-alone elementary school. Total grant fund awarded was $13,747,902.00.
This new 63,736 sf elementary school is a single-story structure, with 21 general classrooms, music room, media center, computer lab, administrative spaces, support spaces, multi-purpose space, food serving kitchen and a gymnasium. The site has an asphalt play area for tetherball, hop-scotch that doubles as a fire lane, and also includes a play structure and an open turf play area. Two future soccer fields and one baseball field was part of the master plan. The bus loading area accommodates 25 buses and safe pedestrian walks.
